Rockhampton Cultural Festival on Saturday 18 September has some great entertainment lined up for festival goers, with two headline acts to keep audiences entertained on the main stage along with a range of other performers.
The opening headline act is Wilma La. An artist in every sense, Wilma La brings flavours of Europe and Middle East into her rich piano and brass based, soulful vocal filled soundscapes, and counters it with stripped back acoustic pieces. She will perform a live adaptation of her album Baby Fibonacci, which was launched earlier this year. The album is a celebration of motherhood and love for the ocean, with stories echoing minimalism, eco-consciousness and joy of little every day moment. Wilma will perform at 4.30 pm on the mainstage at the Cultural Festival.
The finale headline act is Joe Tee and Afrodisa band. Fronted by Ghanan singer Joe Tee, the band is one of Queensland's most sought after combos, performing reggae, calypso and African sounds, mixed with soul and R&B. Joe Tee and Afrodisa have delighted audiences around Australia with their lively and very danceable stage shows. See them on the mainstage at the Rockhampton Cultural Festival at 7.50 pm.
The Cultural Festival also features local performers including Darumbal Dancers, Sabaya Belly Dance, Cynic Tailor, Indian Dance Group, Joel Diya & band, CQ Filipino Association, Tu Te Awaroa Choir and more.
Rockhampton Regional Council Communities and Heritage portfolio spokesperson Cr Drew Wickerson said that it was great to see community groups and individuals highlighting their own cultures in the entertainment planned for the event.
"I encourage people to bring their whole family to come along to immerse themselves in the vibrant culture, diverse entertainment and activities of the Festival and then stay on to enjoy a delicious dinner at the International Food Court," Cr Wickerson said.
The Rockhampton Cultural Festival will be held at the Rockhampton Heritage Village on Saturday 18 September from 4pm to 9pm. Admission is $2 per person with children aged 5 years and under free. A licensed bar will operate.
