Tasmania Police and National Heavy Vehicle Regulators conducted a traffic operation at Campbell Town today, focusing on heavy vehicle compliance and vehicle defects.
"As part of the joint traffic operation today, police officers and transport inspectors conducting compliance checks of heavy vehicles, and licence checks, oral fluid testing and RBTs of truck drivers on the Midland Highway," said Sergeant Terry Reaney.
As a result of the operation between 10am and 1pm:
• 13 truck inspections conducted
• 1 defect notice issued
• 5 education advices provided to drivers regarding defects (no defect issued)
• 70 random breath tests conducted
• 3 oral fluid tests conducted.
"With the festive season now here, I urge all motorists to ensure they do the right thing on the roads, to prevent crashes and help everyone get safely to their destination," said Sergeant Reaney.
The message from police to all road users this festive season is to:
• Follow the speed limit
• Pay attention - leave your phone alone
• Take a break if you're tired,
• Always wear your seatbelt or helmet
• Don't drive if you've taken drugs or been drinking.
