Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Helen Mc Shane as its first State Integrity Manager for Western Australia, under a new 12-month pilot.
This inaugural position, based in Perth, ensures localised knowledge and expertise, and signals the next phase of a long-term collaborative approach to creating and maintaining safe environments in Western Australian sport.
Helen is a sport integrity specialist focussed on facilitating and supporting safe environments for all, and working towards a place where everyone has the right to feel and be safe.
"The positive benefits of sport to individuals and the community are significant," she said.
"However, these benefits can only occur if the experience is a positive one.
"We have such an opportunity through our collective work to enable everyone involved in sport to participate in a safe, fair and inclusive way, so they can all enjoy these benefits."
Helen has a demonstrated commitment to sport integrity, along with an exemplary collaborative approach working across government, industry and community stakeholders.
Over her 20-year international career, spanning both government and the not-for-profit sector, Helen has worked to advance sport integrity; strategic policy; and legislation review and implementation.'
Helen has held roles in Western Australia with the Department of Communities, SportWest and the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.
Helen also holds a Master of Business (Sport Management), has been a Board Director and has trained as a mediator. Helen is also an active parent in community sport.
This appointment is a demonstration of SIAs commitment to protecting sport together in partnership with the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries and SportWest, and provides the opportunity to continue to build on the recent momentum in the West.
It's a role Helen said she is looking forward to jumping into.
"I am excited about the opportunity to build upon the recent momentum of work in Western Australia and continue to work in collaboration with DLGSC, SportWest, other state-based agencies alongside the WA sports sector, to align and evolve the implementation of the NIF in the WA context.
"It is an exciting time in Australian sport, with the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games driving interest and participation in sport, and the legacy planning for Brisbane 2032, providing the opportunity to collectively influence the sport experience over the next decade."
