Many of our community are keen to get out and help clean up our beaches in the wake of ex-TC Alfred.
Large swell and heavy rain resulted in debris washing ashore.
Whilst a lot of this debris is naturally occurring and part of the ecosystem, some of it is rubbish and does not belong on our beaches.
If you'd like to help clean up our coastline, you are invited to join an organised operation with a local community group.
Similar to Clean Up Australia Day, Sunshine Coast Council will work to support volunteer groups involved, ensuring a coordinated and efficient beach cleanup operation.
Sunshine Coast Disaster Recovery Chair Cr Maria Suarez thanked the many community groups and volunteers who were keen to get out there and help our beaches.
"Thank you for your patience and allowing Council the time to assess these areas before moving forward with the beach clean-up," Cr Suarez said.
"The wild weather has now calmed down and the beach clean-up can begin."
Beach update
Cr Suarez said Council had been out assessing each beach.
"As with other areas across the Coast, a lot of debris and fallen trees have ended up over pathways, steps and beach accesses," Cr Suarez said.
"There is also a significant amount of debris in our waterways which can wash ashore."
Play it safe during beach clean up
Cr Suarez said many of our beaches had been impacted with large sand loss.
"Please continue to stay off the exposed and fragile dunes and stay away from any steep drop-offs, as sand can collapse suddenly, putting people at serious risk," Cr Suarez said.
"Thank you for your support and volunteering to help make the Sunshine Coast shine again."

Tips for groups wanting to host a clean up
We're asking all groups to register their beach clean-ups through the Clean Up Australia Day website at register.cleanup.org.au.
The Clean Up Australia Day website can assist with organising and conducting your event, including safety.
Conduct beach clean-ups as close to low tide as possible to ensure safe beach areas for volunteers. And please stay off the fragile dunes.
