We all have a role to play in protecting our local waterways.
Every time we step out of our home in Yarra, we're within 4km of a major river or creek. These waterways include the Yarra River, Merri Creek and Darebin Creek.
The quality of water that goes back into our rivers or creeks is up to us!
Pollutants such as:
- litter
- grease and oils from cars
- illegally dumped household or commercial waste
All enter our waterways following rainfall. This happens when water drains off the roofs, down our gutters and into our drainage networks. From there they go straight into our valuable waterways.
To keep our rivers and the animal life within them healthy, we all need to be mindful of reducing the pollution entering our drainage network and waterways.
