Help Shape Future Of Our Playgrounds: Bega Valley

Bega Valley Shire Council is seeking community input for the development of a Playground Management Plan.

Council manages 39 playgrounds across the shire – each representing a significant investment by Council and an ongoing maintenance commitment.

Council's Parks and Recreation Planning and Projects Coordinator, Amelia Baum emphasised the need for the plan.

"Playgrounds are important for children's health. They help kids stay active, make friends, think creatively and learn new skills. They are also an important meeting place for parents, carers and friends," said Ms Baum.

"Many of our playgrounds are aging and the play experience is becoming poor. The plan will serve as an invaluable guide for future investment.

"We're creating a plan that reflects changing demographics, new trends in play and new safety standards.

"We've developed a short survey to help guide the development of the Playground Management Plan.

"From the community, we want to understand how existing play spaces are being used and understand acceptable and preferred scenarios for managing our playgrounds into the future.

"Your input will help us see everyone has access to a diverse range of playgrounds, and design play spaces that offer more value and enjoyment, and plan the financial sustainability of the playground network.

"You can help give children a voice by either completing the survey with them or encouraging them to complete the survey themselves."

The survey closes on Sunday 17 August.
