Police are appealing for public assistance as they continue to investigate a home invasion at Wellington about 10 weeks ago.

Officers attached to Orana Mid-Western Police District commenced an investigation after five people forced their way into a home on Arthur Street, about 5.30am on Tuesday 1 October 2024.

Police have been told the five – who were armed with weapons – assaulted the 37-year-old occupant before stealing cash and his black Holden Commodore sedan. It was recovered later that day and was seized for forensic examination.

The man was treated for a cut to his left eyebrow after being struck; he was treated in Wellington Hospital for the injury.

Strike Force Alfafar has been formed to investigate the incident with initial inquiries indicate the home invasion was a targeted attack. Police are now appealing for assistance from the community.

An image of the stolen vehicle has been released today by detectives in the hope that someone will remembers seeing it after it was stolen from the Arthur Street home on the morning of the home invasion.

"Wellington is a small town and we believe there would be people here who have information crucial to this investigation," Detective Chief Inspector Paul Stephens, Orana Mid-Western Police District Crime Manager said.

"We also believe there would be witnesses to the incident, as well as CCTV and dashcam vision which could be invaluable to investigators as they continue their inquiries," he said.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence. The public is reminded not to report information via NSW Police social media pages.
