Children and their families are invited to help celebrate 40 years of Council's Family Day Care Service at a special event later this month.

To be held on Wednesday 30 October, this free community event will be a chance to celebrate and learn more about the service, where it's come from, and what it has to offer.

For the service's core clients – our region's children – there will be a host of free activities on offer including Sunraysia Arts and Learning Music Time, Mildura Library story time, building blocks, and colouring in.

Parents and guardians meanwhile will be able to speak directly to our Family Day Care team to learn more about what the service provides and ask any questions.

The event will run from 11am to 3pm at the Alfred Deakin Centre's Benetook Room, culminating in a birthday cake cutting at 2pm. Residents are also invited to join the Family Day Care team for a BYO picnic lunch.

Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Min Poole said Council's Family Day Service is currently provided by 31 registered educators, who care and help foster the development of more than 360 children in the Mildura and Wentworth Shire Council areas.

"Over the past 40 years our dedicated Family Day Care teams have played, and continue to play, pivotal roles in helping to shape the formative years of our region's children," Cr Poole said.

"This year's 40th anniversary of the service's inception is a great opportunity to reflect back on the impact our educators have had, and the options and services they currently provide."

Council's Family Day Care team provides a home-based early childhood education and care service for children aged six weeks to 13 years.
