The Allan Labor Government is making Victoria's regional communities even better places to live, stay and play for generations to come - with more local Geelong and Surf Coast sporting clubs set to score new and upgraded community sports facilities.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today visited Stead Park's hockey venue in Corio to announce the Geelong Sports Package - which will see a major upgrade to its facility with a better pitch, new pavilion and more seating for more fans.
Stead Park is one of the 15 sporting infrastructure projects getting an upgrade across the state as part of the Labor Government's Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, with four projects across the Geelong and Surf Coast region as part of the program.
Home of the Geelong Hockey Association, Stead Park has built a reputation as a destination hockey venue for the Geelong region and beyond and the upgrades will only strengthen Stead Park's reputation.
Surf Coast residents will also be able to enjoy new hockey facilities at Banyul-Warri Fields - home of the Torquay Tornadoes - including a new hockey pitch with lighting, scoreboard and spectator seating.
Waurn Ponds residents are set to enjoy a new indoor sporting complex with six multi-sport courts, a gymnastics facility, dance studio and extensive on-site parking.
Finally, a new indoor sports centre will be built in the heart of Armstrong Creek - helping to grow local sport in the area, featuring a civic plaza, four indoor multi-sport courts and extra car parking.
These projects will help increase sports participation amongst the Geelong and Surf Coast communities and bring more elite sport to regional Victoria - supporting local businesses and communities.
Further updates on the projects will be provided in the coming months. For more information about the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program, visit sport.vic.gov.au.
