The annual Heritage Festival will take place from Friday 22 April to 1 May, 2022. Nominations are now open for the biennial Tamworth Regional Heritage Awards and will be open until 4pm, Wednesday 6 April, 2022.
The award categories include:
- Warren Newman Memorial for Contribution to Heritage within the Region
- Aboriginal Cultural Heritage
- Adaptive Reuse
- Building Conservation
- Heritage Resources and Publication
- Heritage Tourism, Education and Interpretation
- New Systematic Development
Chairperson of the Tamworth Regional Heritage Working Group and Tamworth region Councillor, Helen Tickle said that the Heritage Awards showcase the region's rich heritage.
"It is important to recognise the fantastic things which individuals, organisations and companies do to preserve and promote the heritage of the Tamworth region. We have a rich and diverse heritage here. These awards are vital in promoting and encouraging the community to embrace and share the heritage which is a big part of the identity of the region."
The awards are held biennially and will go ahead on Friday 29 April 2022 during the 2022 Heritage Festival.
Winners in 2020 included Len Waters for Len Waters Aboriginal Cultural Tours, Tamworth Powerstation Museum for completion of the Display Cabinet Program, Duncan and Megan Trousdale who took out the Building Conservation Award for Odgers and McClelland Exchange Store, Nundle.
