Edward River Council has called for applications from local groups keen to preserve the history of the Deniliquin area. Grants are now available through the Local Heritage Fund for the preservation, enhancement and documentation of heritage within the Edward River Council area. The grants are aimed to supporting owners of significant heritage buildings, listed heritage items or items in the Heritage Conservation Area under the Conargo and Deniliquin Environmental Plans.
CEO Phil Stone said that Council would match the investment of successful applicants, with up to dollar-for-dollar grant funding.
"This is a valuable opportunity to preserve our local heritage. The funding is specifically directed towards projects that are identified as having heritage significance by Council's Heritage Advisor or other heritage specialists.
"We give priority to commercial properties within Deniliquin's Heritage Conservation Area, with a focus on the repair of original features, painting in period colour and styles, and general preservation efforts.
"As we have seen with our Town Hall redevelopment, the upkeep of our heritage buildings with deliver long term benefits of our community, enhance public enjoyment and ensure the sustainable preservation of our cultural heritage."
"I would encourage applicants to read the eligibility requirements and assessment criteria on Council's website before applying, as the grants are very competitive," said Mr Stone.
Applications must be submitted by 19 July 2023 and will be assessed by Council's Heritage Adviser prior to being submitted to Council for consideration.
