The $1.22 million in grants will support 39 projects, including 18 conservation projects, 14 documentation efforts, and seven community heritage initiatives.

Through the State Heritage Grants stream, 32 heritage owners have received funding to undertake urgent physical and documentation works to preserve and protect places on the State Register of Heritage Places.

Through the Community Heritage Grants stream, seven projects will receive funding towards heritage walks and trails, digital interpretation projects and surveys.

Among the successful projects are:

  • Matso's Store & Captain Gregory's House in Broome - $100,000 for structural repairs, preserving Broome's rich pearling history and cultural significance;
  • Cheynes Beach Whaling Station in Albany - $50,000 for corrosion protection on the Cheynes IV, which is an iconic whaling vessel on permanent display; and
