- Tender released for design and construction of $12 million two-storey modular classroom block for Highgate Primary School
- Innovative design will include six classrooms for 160 students and additional toilets for students and staff
- Part of WA Labor Government's record $4.4 billion investment into school infrastructure
Education Minister Dr Tony Buti today announced the tender has been released for the design and construction of the two-storey modular classroom block at Highgate Primary School.
The innovative $12 million facility will be constructed in parts offsite, reducing the amount of on-site construction time and associated disruption to the school.
The two-storey classroom block will include six general learning classrooms for 160 students, internal activity areas, teacher facilities, and additional toilets for students and staff.
It is anticipated to be ready for students for the start of the 2026 school year.
To facilitate the installation of the new modular classroom block, upgrades to the school power supply have been completed and fire services upgrades are currently underway with an expected completion of September.
Other additional works undertaken include toilet refurbishments, installation of additional solar panels, new turf and the recently installed synthetic turf.
Planning for the new Inner City Primary School proposed for East Perth is progressing, which will also provide long-term enrolment relief for Highgate Primary School.
The projects are part of the WA Labor Government's record $4.4 billion investment into building new and improved schools across the State.
As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:
"My priority is ensuring all WA families have access to a great education close to home.
"Inner-city living is an increasingly popular choice for families, and we are committed to meeting this demand with high-quality education facilities.
"I'm pleased to announce the next step for this exciting project which will offer additional facilities for students and staff, and the broader school community.
"This innovative building will provide exceptional classrooms for students and will help meet demand at this popular school."
As stated by Perth MLA John Carey:
"Our inner-city community is growing with more families choosing to live here, which is why we have committed to building a new inner city primary school in East Perth - which will be the single biggest investment in a public primary school in our State.
"In the interim, we've committed to a $12 million upgrade at Highgate Primary School for a new two-storey modular classroom block, while other refurbishment and installation works have already been completed.
"I want to acknowledge and thank the Highgate Primary School community in helping to achieve these practical changes on the ground."
