A highway patrol officer has received minor injuries after a B-double truck hit a stationary patrol car on the mid north coast.
About 11.45am yesterday (Tuesday 19 January 2021), a marked highway patrol vehicle stopped a white MG sedan on the Pacific Highway at Kundabung, where a male senior constable spoke with a 37-year-old woman in relation to a minor traffic matter.
The officer finalised the matter and was waiting for a safe time to re-enter his stationary marked highway patrol vehicle, parked in the breakdown lane with all warning lights activated.
A short time later, a b-double truck travelling northbound lost control and hit the rear of the highway patrol vehicle.
Several parts of the vehicle were projected towards the officer, smashing the rear windscreen of the white MG.
The senior constable sustained minor bruises and scratches and did not require hospital treatment. The 37-year-old woman was uninjured.
The truck driver – a 44-year-old man – underwent a roadside breath test which returned a negative result.
An investigation into the crash has been launched, police are asking anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
