Ararat Rural City residents will have a unique opportunity to make music with one of the community's most treasured antique instruments.
Ararat Town Hall's 1952 Baby Grand Steinway piano will be available for public use during its Piano Days sessions at Ararat Gallery TAMA this Saturday.
The piano has hosted a broad range musicians in its time, including beginner pianists, community groups such as Bendigo community choir Women of Note, and notable performers such as Melbourne pianist and composer Nat Bartsch.
These public sessions seek to boost engagement at Ararat Gallery TAMA and offer visitors a dynamic and more immersive cultural experience.
Those wishing to participate in these sessions are welcome to bring along their own sheet music to perform from or simply play an improvised tune.
Piano Days will be held this Saturday, 22 February from 10am - 12.45pm at Ararat Gallery TAMA.
Additional sessions will also be held on 8 March and 22 March, from 10am - 12.45pm and 1.15pm - 4.00pm each day. Entry is free, and no booking is required.
"This initiative provides a wonderful opportunity for community members to express their creativity," says Ararat Rural City Council Mayor, Cr Jo Armstrong.
"We believe that this exceptional instrument will not only bring the joy of music making to our residents but will also uplift the artistic and cultural experiences available throughout our municipality."
