The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 27 February to establish a collaborative framework aimed at fostering a vibrant digital-tech entrepreneurship ecosystem in Hong Kong.
As an internationally recognised university known for its innovative research and teaching, HKU is committed to leveraging its diverse expertise across various faculties to support the development of the digital-tech industry. Cyberport, as a public body, envisions the digital tech sector as a key economic driver for Hong Kong, focusing on nurturing youth, startups, and entrepreneurs by connecting them with strategic partners and investors.
The MOU outlines a shared vision for driving technological transformation and enhancing collaboration between the two organiations. Key initiatives under this partnership will include:
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation: Joint programmes to support startups and nurture entrepreneurship in areas such as FinTech, Web3, and talent development.
- AI Development: Knowledge exchange and events to connect researchers, students, and industry professionals to advance Hong Kong's AI industry.
- Intellectual Property Commercialisation: Promotion of HKU's Intellectual Property Commercialization Programme to protect and commercialie research outcomes.
Both HKU and Cyberport will collaborate to facilitate industry growth through training programmes, internships, and resources for startups, while leveraging their extensive network to support industry events and initiatives. This collaboration marks a significant step towards enhancing Hong Kong's position as a leader in digital technology and innovation.
