HKU Dentistry's "Azalea Gum Treatment Project" continues to provide complimentary dental care to Hong Kong's underprivileged

With the continuous support from the Azalea (1972) Endowment Fund, the Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) has initiated a second round of patient recruitment for the Azalea Gum Treatment Project.

The Azalea (1972) Endowment Fund has generously donated HKD 11 million to support this pioneering dental project, designed to enhance accessibility to premium dental care. Global leaders in the dental field have pledged in-kind contributions, further amplifying the project's societal impact. For instance, the Straumann Group will be supplying its premium dental products, while Modern Dental Group will offer their professional dental laboratory services. Ray HK and Dentsply Sirona have also joined this collaborative effort.

The project aims to leverage these resources to deliver top-tier dental care and innovative solutions, ensuring that more people have access to the treatments they need. With the combined efforts of financial supporters and industry leaders, the initiative is set to create a lasting, positive impact on oral health standards.

Upon successfully concluding the first recruitment phase, eligible patients have started receiving free comprehensive dental care at IAD-MSC. "Through treatments, we are seeing improvement in oral and general health, chewing function, speech, wellbeing and confidence in patients" said Dr. George Pelekos, the Project Lead and Clinical Associate Professor.
