The University of Hong Kong (HKU) is pleased to note that it has once again achieved the position as the second highest-ranked university in Asia, according to the 2025 QS Asia University Rankings. The result was announced today (November 6) by the global higher education analytics organisation Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). In local rankings, HKU continues to maintain its premier position.
HKU's consistent performance in the latest rankings highlights its status as a global leader in academia and innovation, committed to shaping the future through transformative education, cutting-edge research, and a pronounced emphasis on AI-readiness. In line with these ideals, the University recently established new schools dedicated to innovation and data science, while also expanding the premises of the HKU Musketeers Foundation Institute of Data Science. In addition, AI-related elements have been integrated into various programmes across different Faculties.
The University believes that its strong performance in the latest rankings will support HKU, as a global university in Asia, in contributing to the Government's "Study in Hong Kong" initiative to develop Hong Kong into an international hub for post-secondary education.
The QS Asia University Rankings are released annually, highlighting the top universities in Asia. The 2025 rankings were determined based on 11 critical indicators, encompassing academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty student ratio, international research network, citations per paper and papers per faculty, staff with PhD, international faculty ratio and international student ratio, inbound and outbound exchange student ratios.
