The "Mainland-Hong Kong-Macao Scientists Forum and Exchange Activities 2025" organised by the China Women's Association for Science and Technology (CWAST) and co-hosted by the University of Hong Kong (HKU), was held at the HKU campus from 14 to 15 April. The forum brought together over 80 leading scientists, experts, and students to discuss the latest advancements in materials science, biochemistry, biomedicine, artificial intelligence, and engineering.
The forum featured eight Academicians as keynote speakers, including Academicians Duan Huiling, Gao Fu, Li Hui, Yan Xiyun, Yang Wei, and Zhu Meifang from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with Academicians Tu Shandong and Sun Lili from the Chinese Academy of Engineering. They were joined by nearly 19 experts and scholars from Mainland China and Hong Kong, who shared their groundbreaking research and insights.
Professor Vivian Yam, Vice-President and Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global Innovation Centre) of HKU, and Ms Xie Xin, Vice-President and Secretary-General of CWAST, delivered welcome speeches at the opening ceremony.
Professor Yam emphasised the University's commitment to advancing global scientific collaboration: "HKU is dedicated to pioneering research and deepening partnerships with Mainland institutions and organisations. This forum exemplifies our mission to build a platform for scholars to address evolving global challenges through cross-disciplinary innovation."
Ms Xie highlighted Hong Kong's strategic role in the Greater Bay Area's innovation ecosystem: "Hong Kong's international research environment and institutional agility accelerate technology transfer, aligning with national strategies. Collaborating with HKU enables academic dialogue and empowers youth to engage with scientific frontiers."
Participating Academicians and scholars visited HKU's Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science, and Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine on 15 April, engaging in discussions and collaborative dialogues. These sessions facilitated networking, knowledge-sharing, and discussions on future research partnerships. The event strengthened academic ties between Mainland China and Hong Kong, paving the way for future interdisciplinary collaborations in science and technology.
