HKU Hosts Colorful Breeze Ethnic Arts Night

The Centre of Development and Resources of Students (CEDARS) at the University of Hong Kong (HKU) co-hosted the "Colorful Breeze" -- Chinese Ethnic Minority Arts Night with Hong Kong United Art Entertainment Company Limited on October 20 at Yuet Ming Auditorium. The event was advised by Bauhinia Culture Group Corporation Ltd., co-organised by Minzu University of China (MUC) and supported by the "Chamber of Young Snow Arts Fund".

The ensemble, consisting of students and professors from the School of Music and School of Dance at Minzu University of China, delivered an exquisite evening blending art and life for HKU students, alumni, and the general public.

The programme began with a lecture by Professor Cui Lingling from MUC on the richness of Chinese ethnic minorities, followed by the performance team led by Professor Jiang Tiehong from MUC's School of Dance. The performances showcased music and dances from various ethnic groups including Mongolian, Uyghur, Tibetan, and Dai. The performers, adorned in beautiful ethnic costumes and playing traditional instruments, provided a vibrant display of cultural heritage. The atmosphere was further enhanced by a Cantopop song.

Lucien, an exchange student from Scotland studying at HKU's Faculty of Social Sciences, said: "This event was absolutely spectacular and allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the culture of ethnic minorities through their music and dance. I was particularly impressed by Professor Jiang Tiehong's Mongolian dance performance. His impromptu performance at the end truly conveyed his love for his cultural heritage and his dedication to dance. I look forward to participating in more events like this to further explore the cultural essence of this land."

Laurence Tang, Head of Campus Life at CEDARS, expressed that this cultural event not only broadens the local and international students' imagination of Chinese ethnic minority cultures, promotes cross-cultural exchanges, enhances the humanistic atmosphere on campus, but also allows the public to collectively experience and enjoy the rich charm of multiculturalism. He aims to bring more high-level performances to HKU in the future.
