Community celebration and the Christmas spirit will be on full display this Saturday for the 41st City of Hobart Myer Christmas Pageant.
This year, the iconic parade promises to be as big and bright as ever, featuring a procession of 46 floats, including a dozen new additions that are sure to capture the hearts of both young and old.
Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said excitement was building about the upcoming spectacle. "
The City of Hobart is thrilled to present the 41st Myer Christmas Pageant, a tradition that brings so many people into the city to celebrate this special time of year together," Cr Reynolds said.
"This year's parade will be wonderful, with 46 lively and fun entries, including 12 making their debut appearance."
Among the highlights of the parade, the ever-jolly Santa Claus will be making a grand entrance, spreading cheer and warmth as he ushers in the holiday season.
Santa will be joined by a couple of old Christmas favourites who have made a big return this year in Barbie and Ken.
The ABC has entered a float to celebrate the Giving Tree's 35th anniversary, while to mark an even bigger milestone, the RACT joins the festivities for the first time as it commemorates its 100th anniversary of service to the community.
It is the community spirit that makes the Myer Christmas Pageant a beloved event with such organisations as the ABC and the RACT joining multicultural, sporting, theatrical and other community groups in the parade.
Myer Hobart Store Manager, Kathleen Kelly, commented on the importance of the Pageant to the City and the local community.
"The entire Myer team is very excited to be part of the much-loved Christmas Pageant this year,' Ms Kelly said.
"It truly brings the magic and joy of Christmas to life in the City and we think it is going to the biggest and best one yet.
"It is such an institution in Hobart and something that has been enjoyed by generations and, as the major sponsor of the event, we can't wait to be part of the fun and excitement it brings to the City with heaps of activities planned for our customers in store."
Santa will be available to meet families in the Myer Hobart story from 12pm, where there will also be a range of other Christmas activities.
The City of Hobart invites residents and visitors alike to come together and revel in the magic of the 41st Myer Christmas Pageant.
The festivities will kick off at 10.30am this Saturday 18 November with the parade making its traditional route through the heart of Hobart.
