The Tasmanian Electoral Commission has today informed the City of Hobart that Gemma Kitsos has been elected to the Hobart City Council on a recount.

The position became available following the resignation of former Deputy Lord Mayor Helen Burnet, who was elected to the Tasmanian Parliament's House of Assembly for the seat of Clark at the recent state election.

City of Hobart chief executive Michael Stretton congratulated Gemma Kitsos on her election.

"Being elected to serve your community is a great privilege and a great responsibility bestowed upon all elected members," Mr Stretton said.

"Congratulations to Gemma and I look forward to working with you and all elected members in the future for the betterment of the residents of Hobart."

Gemma Kitsos will make a declaration of office before the next Hobart City Council meeting (29 April) where elected members will also vote to fill the position of Deputy Lord Mayor.
