Hobart To Host 2024 Hockey One League Finals

Simon Behrakis, Liberal Member for Clark

Hobart is gearing up to host some of Australia's finest hockey players at the 2024 Hockey One League Finals later this year.

To be held at the Tasmanian Hockey Centre in New Town, the Hockey One League Finals is Australia's official senior elite national competition featuring the country's best male and female players as well as several international athletes.

Liberal Member for Clark, Simon Behrakis, said it was exciting to have the competition being played in our wonderful state.

"This event will make Tasmania the national hockey capital," Mr Behrakis said.

"The Tasmanian Liberal Government, through Events Tasmania, has supported the 2024 Hockey One League Finals Series with a total of $200,000."

Seven teams will participate in the League from Tasmania, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to supporting these kinds of events as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's Future well as our ongoing investment in sporting infrastructure state-wide.

Most recently, $1.3 million was committed to upgrade the playing surfaces to ensure the Tasmanian Hockey Centre remains up to world-class standards.

"Events like this show that by investing in sports infrastructure we can attract major events like this and make sure our place on the national sporting stage can't be ignored," Mr Behrakis said.

"Major sports events are a huge drawcard for both interstate and intrastate visitors, and are a great way to get the community interested and involved in sport."

The Finals will take place from Saturday, 30 November to Sunday, 1 December 2024 with tickets to go on sale in August.
