Homicide Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in St Kilda last night.
Emergency services were called to reports of a house fire on Chapel Street about 8.40pm.
Responding firefighters located a critically injured man, who is yet to be formally identified, inside the property.
He was treated but died at the scene.
The exact circumstances surrounding the death, as well as the fire at the property, are yet to be determined and the matter is being treated as suspicious.
A crime scene has been established and an arson chemist will assess the scene.
