Homicide Investigation, Mighell

Police have arrested a man in relation to a homicide investigation in Mighell, today, June 28.

Emergency crews were initially called to an address around 4.15pm where a woman was located with life threatening stab wounds. Despite efforts from the crews, she died at the scene.

A man allegedly left in a vehicle before police arrived.

A short time later, the same car was involved in a two-vehicle crash with a truck on the Bruce Highway at Sandy Pocket around 4.30pm.

The truck driver was not physically injured, but the man in the vehicle allegedly fled the scene.

Police closed the Bruce Highway and searched for the man, who allegedly attempted to steal a car from another woman nearby.

The woman was not physically injured during the incident.

Just after 6pm, police arrested a 51-year-old man without incident near the Highway at Sandy Pocket.

It is understood that the man and woman who died are known to each other.

Investigations are ongoing.

There is no further threat to public safety at this time.
