Police have charged a 24-year-old Kirwan woman following the sudden death of a 9-year-old boy in Kirwan overnight.
It will be alleged emergency services were called to a Charles Street residence around 7.05pm following reports the boy was unresponsive.
Upon arrival, police located the boy deceased.
The woman was taken into custody at the scene without incident.
It will be further alleged the woman and boy were known to each other.
She has been charged with one count of murder and is due before Townsville Magistrates Court on January 27.
Investigations into the circumstances of the boy's death are continuing.
