Homicide Squad Detectives Investigate Geelong Death

A man has died in a Geelong hotel overnight following an incident between two residents of the venue.

Police have been told a man was found injured in an upstairs accommodation room at the Brougham Street establishment about 11.50pm.

It is believed the 82-year-old victim was assaulted by another man, aged in his 30s, who was also staying at the hotel.

The man died at the scene.

The other man left the area before police arrived.

Detectives from the Homicide Squad will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The area has been cordoned off and a crime scene established. Officers from the Major Crime Scene Unit will also attend the scene.

A search is currently underway to locate the other man involved.

At this stage the incident appears isolated and involves people known to one another.
