The much-loved Hornsby Library will re-open to the public at 10am on Tuesday 8 February as a multi-million-dollar upgrade nears completion. The newly completed internal layout greatly improves its amenity and accessibility.
The long-anticipated $4.7 million makeover sees Hornsby Library re-emerge as more welcoming, more flexible and with more places to read, relax, connect, create and discover.
"The extensive refurbishments to Hornsby Library not only make it more attractive, but also more comfortable, more up-to-date and interactive, and provide much more amenity, adding to the pleasure of the Library experience," said Hornsby Shire Council Mayor, Philip Ruddock.
"The revived Hornsby Library features a dedicated new children's area; a spacious new quiet-study space; more room for computer sessions; and more power-points for laptops and devices."
The Library's extensive collection of resources has been refreshed around a variety of seating areas. There is a wide selection of new resources to browse.
"Our new look Hornsby Library can now resume its vital role as a community hub, supporting community book clubs, study spaces, author talks, children's storytimes, and many other activities," said Mayor Ruddock.
The Hornsby Library upgrade is funded from development contributions, the Public Library Infrastructure Grant program, and external grants from the State Library.
"The library is certainly one of the most popular spots in Hornsby, giving enjoyment to locals of all ages. It's great that the work has now been completed and that services will be available again soon in a COVID safe way," Member for Hornsby, Matt Kean MP said.
Hornsby Shire Council's four Libraries, at Hornsby, Pennant Hills, Galston and Berowra typically welcome over 700,000 Library visits each year.
All four Hornsby Shire Libraries are now open, though with reduced operating hours due to the ongoing COVID environment. Masks are required when visiting a Hornsby Shire Library.
"Our dedicated staff are keen to welcome back our many patrons – and show them around the newly upgraded facilities at Hornsby Library – one of the Shire's most popular, best-loved social hubs," said Mayor Ruddock.
