Horsham Rural City Council is currently consulting the Horsham North community on the issues and opportunities for the area so as to develop a Horsham North Local Area Plan.
Council is keen to hear from members of the Horsham North community about their experience of living in Horsham North, including what is already working well and what ideas they have for making Horsham North a more accessible and connected place to live.
The issues and opportunities Council is particularly interested in discussing are parks, public spaces, streetscapes, and pedestrian/cyclist connectivity in Horsham North.
Mayor Robyn Gulline acknowledges that significant planning work has already been undertaken in Horsham North and through these previous consultations, Council has been made aware of some key issues.
"Council is keenly aware of the railway land currently owned by other parties as a significant barrier and under-utilised land. This land presents opportunities for paths and a park corridor that would add amenity and green space to the area and greater connectivity across the entire city.
"It is also understood that the current pedestrian underpasses are outdated and that footpaths and cycling access are in need of upgrade," she said.
As part of the consultation, two face-to-face sessions have been scheduled for Council staff to hear from the community directly.
These will take place on:
- Wednesday 16 March (4pm – 6pm) at the Neighbourhood House (13-15 Robin Street, Horsham)
- Thursday 17 March (9am – 1pm) at the Kalkee Road Children's and Community Hub (28 Kalkee Road, Horsham)
Council has prepared a Draft Horsham North Issues and Opportunities Paper to help guide the discussion. This paper is available to view online and hard copies are available at the Council Civic Centre, Kalkee Road Children's Hub and the Horsham Library.
The feedback provided on the Horsham North Issues and Opportunities Paper will inform the next stage of the wider project which is the Horsham North Local Area Plan. Submissions on the Draft Horsham North Issues and Opportunities Paper are due by Friday 1 April.
The Horsham North Local Area Plan project picks up from previous work and community engagement that informed the Horsham North Urban Design Framework (2013) and the Horsham Rail Corridor Masterplan (2016).
