Hort funded grant now open for applications

Are you 18-35 and working in horticulture or studying in a related field? Hort Innovation is a proud partner of the 2022 Science and Innovation Awards for Young People in Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, providing a $22,000 (incl. GST) grant in the horticulture category.

Funded under the Hort Innovation Leadership Fund, the grant is available to 18-35-year-olds who are working or studying in agriculture or a related field, with a project that will contribute to the ongoing success and sustainability of Australia's horticulture industry.

Last year's horticulture Science Award winner, Ryan Orr was provided with a grant to develop a new analytical tool for use in agricultural biosecurity that would improve the timeliness and efficiency of biosecurity incursion monitoring, leading to more successful containment of soil-borne diseases.

The competitive grant program, coordinated by the Australian Bureau of Agricultural and Resource Economics and Sciences (ABARES) consists of 11 industry categories and is designed to attract innovative projects that will tackle key issues across the sector, and boost the early-career development for researchers, scientists, and other innovators.

Category winners will also be invited to apply for the Minister of Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management's Award, granting an additional $22,000 (incl. GST) to extend their projects.

Applications for the 2022 round are now open and close at 5 pm AEST Friday 1 October 202. Winners will be announced at the ABARES Outlook event in March 2022.
