Following the success of the Housing Summit in November 2023, together with numerous industry interviews and a recent forum, Swan Hill Rural City Council is proud to announce the official endorsement of Housing Action: Greater Swan Hill.
Council's Mayor Cr Stuart King emphasised Council's commitment to maintaining the positive momentum in addressing local housing challenges.
"As a region, we are making significant strides in our collaborative efforts to tackle the pressing issue of housing shortages.
"Currently, only 60-70 homes are built each year, which is insufficient to meet the existing demand and to accommodate new residents who wish to work and live here," he stated.
Cr King said he was proud that Council has formally endorsed a new committee - Housing Action: Greater Swan Hill.
"This initiative will unite stakeholders from the property, construction, development, education, and infrastructure sectors to collectively address the housing shortfall.
"I extend my heartfelt thanks to those who have volunteered to be part of the Housing Action: Greater Swan Hill group. This initiative will focus on exploring diverse strategies to enhance both the availability and affordability of housing," he added.
"Housing Action: Greater Swan Hill aims to foster community engagement and build strong partnerships among residents, local businesses, government agencies, and stakeholders, creating a comprehensive approach to the housing shortage.
"By joining forces and leveraging the collective expertise and resources of our community, we are confident that we can develop innovative solutions that will make a tangible difference in addressing this urgent issue," Cr King concluded.
