Horticulturists primarily focus on food and crop cultivation, involving themselves in any range of crops including flowers, spices, vegetables and fruits. Horticulturists provide specialist advice on crop maximisation and harvesting techniques to assist farmers in crop production.

Horticulturists work in a number of environments such as gardens, rainforests, urban areas and farms, they ensure that environmental implications are considered during the creation of garden areas. They consider factors such as soil quality and composition, rainfall, climate and exposure. Using scientific and experimental methods, they help control pests, increase yields and create beautiful landscaped spaces.
