How Sharing Puts Us On Path To Happiness

Sunshine Coast Council

As the Sunshine Coast boasts more than 73 km of Coastal Pathway, walkers, runners, bike and scooter riders have an abundance of scenic routes to explore.

Due to the growing popularity of these pathways and responding to valuable feedback from users, the need to promote respectful behaviour has become more apparent than ever.

That's why Sunshine Coast Council has launched a timely new campaign called "Mind if We Share - One path many ways".

Strong Community Portfolio Councillor David Law welcomed the campaign, which would empower users with improved knowledge of pathway etiquette.

"Through engaging signage and community outreach efforts, the campaign aims to remind users to share the path courteously, ensuring a safer and more enjoyable experience for everyone," Cr Law said.

"While the benefits of our pathways for physical and mental well-being are undeniable, it's crucial to acknowledge them as shared public spaces.

"This is another example of how we're connecting and engaging with our communities to build a better future for everyone."

Pathway golden rules

The campaign emphasises the key rules of shared pathways. These include:

  • be considerate of fellow users
  • remember to keep left, whether you're bike riding, walking with pets, scooting or using mobility aids
  • reduce speed and signal or alert others when approaching them
  • give way with a smile and share the path.

Councillor David Law encouraged all users to take accountability for ensuring our pathways were safe, inclusive and fun locations for commuting, exercising and socialising.

"Shared pathways are for everyone, irrespective of the mode of transport, so join us in promoting responsible usage by embracing the Share the Path ethos," Cr Law said.
