How We Work Behind Scenes For You And Your Patients

Australian Medical Association

You might be surprised by just how much behind the scenes advocacy goes on at national AMA.

A lot of our work for members goes on behind the scenes here in Canberra. Every week our small but dedicated team of staff in Barton engage in policy development and advocacy, meeting with decision makers across departments, ministers and other parliamentary representatives and their staffers, pushing the case for positive change in the health system.

Your policy team attended more than 400 meetings in 2024, including meetings with the Minister for Health and Aged Care, helping to influence Australia's healthcare system on your behalf, and on the behalf of your patients.

The team also brings together stakeholders at events to discuss important issues. Highlights include last year's colleges and associations meeting and earlier this year our Rising temperatures, rising risks summit.

The national AMA policy team provided 60 submissions to government consultations in 2024, ensuring the AMA's views help inform policy developments on numerous issues and released 10 position statements outlining AMA policy.

Here is an overview of all of the advocacy work your AMA performed for you in 2024
