VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is bowling up support to secure the future summers of cricket with new community cricket hubs in Hume, Casey, Maroondah and Wyndham.

Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence officially announced more than$5.7 million from the Community Cricket Program will go towards establishing new hubs at Ringwood's Jubilee Park, Casey Fields in Cranbourne East and the Hume Community Cricket Hub in Greenvale, while planning is well underway at Alfred Road Recreation Reserve in Werribee.

The four centres will encourage the development of future home-grown cricket players.

In Greenvale, $1.5 million will go towards a six-wicket indoor training centre and a new pavilion with female friendly change rooms, to complement the existing three ovals at the Greenvale Recreation Reserve.

More than $1.3 million will go towards a revamped pavilion at Casey Fields Regional Cricket Pavilion and at Jubilee Park in Ringwood, $2.9 million will go towards the construction of a five-wicket indoor cricket training centre.

The training centre at Jubilee Park will complement a new two-storey pavilion officially opened by Minister Spence this week, after receiving $2 million in funding from the Labor Government.

Planning is underway with the City of Wyndham for a metropolitan hub at Alfred Road Recreation Reserve, with funding to be announced in the coming weeks.

Since 2019, the Community Cricket Program has invested more than $9.6 million in 45 cricket infrastructure projects across Victoria.

The Program is part of the Government's investment of more than $1.1 billion in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.

As stated by Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence

"Grassroots cricket clubs are where it all starts for our budding stars looking to follow in the footsteps of their Test, One Day, BBL and WBBL heroes."

"These four metropolitan cricket hubs will be terrific assets for cricketers across Melbourne and complement the five regional cricket hubs in operation across regional Victoria."

"We're investing in better facilities for training, competition and player development so the next generation have what they need to succeed at all levels."
