Human Rights Debt Expert Visiting Angola

The UN Independent Expert on the effects of foreign debt and human rights, Attiya Waris, will visit Angola from 8 to 17 July 2024.

Waris will examine issues related to debt management, sustainability and debt restructuring, fiscal affairs, illicit financial flow, and their implications for human rights. She aims to provide insights and recommendations to the Government and other stakeholders.

The Independent Expert will meet with Government ministries and provincial authorities, members of the legislature and judiciary, state institutions, civil society organisations, academics, and individuals. She will visit the Luanda and the Benguela provinces.

A press conference will be held on Wednesday 17 July at 15:00 (local time) at the Hotel Presidente in Luanda. The entrance will be at Largo 17 de Setembro 4, Luanda, and access will be strictly limited to journalists.

The Independent Expert will present her report to the Human Rights Council in March 2025.
