We are thrilled to announce two major developments that will provide Sunbury with the modern facilities it deserves.
As the Sunbury population continues to grow at a rapid rate, the need for upgraded resources for all ages has become clear.
The new announcements will cater to those that have been residents of Sunbury for decades and young families new to the area.
At Hume City Council we pride ourselves on being leaders in the Aged Care space, evidenced by our continued commitment to Commonwealth funded aged care services at a time when other councils have abandoned the program.
That's why we commit $3.1 million, including $600,000 from the Victorian Government's Sunbury Bulla Neighbourhood Fund, to turn the Sunbury Senior Citizens Centre into a modern, fit for purpose, multi-use facility.
The upgrade will include multi-use spaces, new and improved kitchen layout and coffee space, as well as improved outdoor spaces to keep residents active, engaged and thriving.
We are also proud to be investing in further upgrades to the Eric Boardman Reserve, a facility at the heart of youth sporting engagement in Sunbury.
Work will start on the installation of a synthetic track to allow for training and competitions to occur all year round for the Sunbury Little Athletics Club.
This upgrade is made possible with a $2 million investment from the Victorian Government and a $1 million investment from Hume City Council – meaning the lifestyles of our most active Sunbury residents are not put on hold by wet and unsafe training grounds.
Quotes attributable to Mayor of Hume City Councillor Joseph Haweil:
"Today's announcement shows that we are committed to supporting Sunbury as it becomes one of our most rapidly developing suburbs."
"With its ideal combination of CBD proximity and suburban living, it's no wonder older residents don't want to leave while young families are choosing to make Sunbury their home, and we want to cater to those needs."
"It's a fantastic achievement that through collaboration with the Victorian Government we have been able to make these necessary and priority projects for Council a reality."
