As Victoria prepares for upcoming local council elections, Hume City residents are urged to ensure their voter registration details are up to date by 4pm, Wednesday 7 August.

Anyone aged 18 or over, who lives in or pays rates to Hume City Council, is eligible to have their say on who will represent them for the next four-year local council term.

Anyone who is already on the Victorian electoral roll under their current Hume address will automatically be enrolled to vote in the Hume City Council election.

The current 11-member council group was elected on 24 October 2020, with this year's election also set to be held in October.

Following a change to electoral boundaries, Hume residents will now be voting under a new 11-ward structure with one councillor elected per ward, as opposed to the current three ward structure of Jacksons Creek, Meadow Valley and Aitken.

Each resident will be voting as a member of one of the following new wards: Aitken, Bababi Marning, Burt-Kur-Min, Emu Creek, Jacksons Hill, Merlynston Creek, Mount Ridley, Roxburgh Park, Tullamarine, Woodlands or Yubup.

It's important all residents check that their enrolment status is correct as the rules for council election enrolment have changed and will affect some voters.

The new rules relate to property owners who don't live in the council area but may be eligible to vote because they pay rates.

There are also additional council enrolment categories for non-resident owners, occupiers, company nominees and non-Australian citizens who pay rates.

Information about the upcoming elections, including the new 11-ward structure and directions for how you can enrol , can be found at the Local Government Elections page of our website.
