Hundreds of Free Activities to Entertain Kids This Holiday

NT Government

Young people across the Northern Territory will have 100s of fun and free activities to enjoy over the September/October school holidays, from basketball programs to barista workshops.

Other activities on offer include painting classes, music and dance workshops and sports and fitness programs. Some of the other highlights include free movie sessions and petting zoo pop-ups.

Activities and events will take place around the Territory in every region from Saturday, 21 September 2024 to Monday, 7 October 2024, with more activities expected to be added to the already jam-packed calendar in the coming weeks.

The Northern Territory Government has provided over $125,000 to more than 30 local youth, sports and community organisations across the Territory to deliver these activities through the 2024-25 Youth Vibe Holiday Grants. Additional annual funding of more than $3 million from the Northern Territory Government is provided through the Quick Response Grants, NT Youth Week Grants and the Regional Youth Activities Grants program, part of which is used for school holiday activities.

Activities will be available across all regions including Central Australia and Alice Springs, Greater Darwin including Palmerston, East Arnhem, Big Rivers and Katherine, and the Barkly and Tennant Creek.

Regions will have plenty on offer including cooking, skate and dance and music workshops and visits from Hoops 4 Health Academy. Corrugated Iron Youth Art's Funtastic Family Day has something for everyone with DJs, performances, circus workshops and more in Greater Darwin.

Young people in Katherine will be able to participate in DJ workshops, free movie screenings and golf clinics. They'll also be able to learn 3D printing skills and participate in a hike.

While most activities are free, some may incur a small cost. Some activities require advance booking, so be sure to check online and secure your spot.
