A Lawnton local or visitor may be blissfully unaware that they've become a newly-minted millionaire after last night's Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw. The Moreton Bay player, holding the only division one winning entry in draw 4349 on December 20, 2023, won $1 million.
However, because the winning entry wasn't registered, lotto officials have no means to contact the winner directly and must wait for them to check their ticket.
The million-dollar ticket was bought at Spar Lawnton, located at 5A, 718 Gympie Road in Lawnton. The store's owners, Kashyap and Chetna Patel, were thrilled with the news. Having only taken over the outlet a month ago, this marks their first division one winning entry.
“We found out the winning news earlier this morning and we were so excited. It’s such wonderful news especially this time of the year,” Kashyap said.
“This is our first division one winning entry since taking over ownership a month ago, so it’s a very special occasion.
“We will be celebrating this momentous moment in our outlet with balloons and streamers, as well as encouraging customers to check their Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto tickets.
“It will be a wonderful moment when the mystery ticketholder checks their ticket and finds out they’ve won $1 million right before Christmas.
“Congratulations to the mystery winner and we wish them all the best with their prize. Thank you for supporting Spar Lawnton!”
The winning numbers were 14, 7, 20, 34, 41, and 23, with supplementary numbers 42 and 26. This draw saw one division one winning entry across Australia, hailing from Queensland.
