The hazard reduction burn is set to treat approximately 66 hectares of bushland and is expected to take 2 to 3 days, including mop up and patrol operations, and will occur adjacent to Lake Road in Elrington.

The low-intensity burn aims to reduce fuel loads in the conservation area to assist in the protection of the area from future bushfires.

Smoke may impact properties in the local area including Elrington and Abernethy. Motorists should exercise caution when driving in the area.

Traffic control will be in place on Lake Road on Wednesday. Motorists are advised to use caution, follow the directions of staff and drive to conditions.

Hazard reduction burns are essential to reduce bushfire fuel loads to help protect parks, neighbours and communities from future bushfires.

All burns around the state are coordinated with the NSW Rural Fire Service to ensure the impact on the community is assessed at a regional level.
