Hunter Valley major maintenance shutdown to keep network safe
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) will carry out a major maintenance shutdown of the Hunter Valley Network of all rail lines from Newcastle to Ulan and Narrabri from Saturday, September 10 until Tuesday, September 13.
The shutdown will allow maintenance works to be carried out which ensures the ARTC network remains safe and reliable.
All out of hours works have been assessed and where required close neighbours have been notified of these activities. Up to date information regarding any changes to these works can be found here: Track Work – ARTC

ARTC Group Executive Hunter Valley Wayne Johnson said:
"We will have more than 100 activities to complete while we have possession of the track, ranging from sections of track formation reconstruction to general maintenance like ballast cleaning and track inspections so the network continues to operate reliably.
"As everyone would be aware, we had a significant rainfall event which saw the need to reschedule the proposed shutdown from July until now. Around 90 percent of those previously scheduled works have been carried through to this shutdown.
"Sydney Trains will also be holding a maintenance shutdown of their Sydney network during this period. Bus services will replace impacted passenger services, and details and schedules can be found at the Transport NSW website.
"We apologise for any disruption or inconvenience caused and thank the community for its support and patience while these essential works are taking place.
"Freight is an essential service. This work ensures that the Hunter Valley Network's vital supply chain for the economy and jobs can keep moving, as well as keeping our customers, staff and the community safe."
"While freight services will be stopped, we continue to ask motorists to remain vigilant and slow down at level crossings during the shutdown as there will be machinery and other movements on the rail line."
