Ms Rosemary Huxtable AO PSM has been appointed to develop the National Health and Medical Research Strategy (strategy).
The strategy will build on our national strengths in health and medical research and strive to fill any gaps. It will aim to attract researchers and investors while building workforce capacity.
Ms Huxtable brings a wealth of experience in government policy, financial management, and strategic leadership, particularly within the Australian Public Service.
Her previous roles, including her tenure as the Secretary of the Department of Finance, have equipped her with a deep understanding of the complexities involved in managing large-scale initiatives such as this strategy.
Ms Huxtable's specific experience in health and aged care policy makes her uniquely qualified to guide the strategy's development.
The strategy will be supported by an extensive consultation process across many different stakeholder groups in the health and medical research sector.
Ms Huxtable will commence in the role later this year, with a webinar to be held with the health and medical research sector on 5th December 2024. Ms Huxtable will provide a draft strategy to government by 30 June 2025 and a final strategy by the end of 2025.
