A Queensland dad humorously warned lottery officials to have an ambulance ready as he was being convinced of his $5 million Saturday Gold Lotto win.
The resident from Jimboomba, Logan was one of four division one winners of the $20 million Superdraw top prize in Saturday Gold Lotto draw 4467, held on Saturday, 11 May 2024. His unregistered winning entry left lotto officials waiting for him to check his ticket and come forward as they had no way of contacting the mystery ticketholder.
“I can’t stop shaking! I’ve been shaking for three days!” he laughed.
“You’ll need to have an ambulance on standby. I’m serious, hurry up!
“I haven’t slept for three days. All of our family are mentally gone.
“It’s funny, I went to the newsagency on the weekend, and I saw there were about 15 people in the queue, and I thought, ‘Bugger this! I’ll go get my mum a Mother’s Day present’.
“I went and bought the Mother’s Day present and came back to buy a QuickPick. If I hadn’t left and came back, maybe those numbers wouldn’t have been drawn for me! It’s unbelievable.
“Thank you for giving me the best phone call I’ve ever had in my life.”
Despite being able to fathom the enormity of his newfound fortune, the Queenslander knew he would use it to help his adult children and invest into the future.
“I’m going to take it all out in cash and put it through the washing machine - just kidding. I’ll help my kids out and I’ll invest it too,’ he laughed.
“We haven’t celebrated yet but will in the next week or so. I might take the adult kids to Maccas – get them a Happy Meal!
“But for now, get the vanilla slice and a coffee ready at the prize payments office!
“Thank you so much.”
His winning entry was purchased at Cusack Lane News and Tobacconist, Shop 10, Jimboomba Junction Shopping Cent, 665-687 Cusack Lane, Jimboomba.
Cusack Lane News and Tobacconist supervisor Tanya Daly said she was overwhelmed with joy and couldn’t believe her outlet had sold a division one winning entry worth $5 million.
“Firstly, congratulations to the winner! Our team and the rest of the community are very happy for you, and we hope this changes your life for the better and brings joy to those around you,” she said.
“We’re so pleased to hear that Cusack Lane News and Tobacconist had sold a division one winning entry in the weekend’s Saturday Gold Lotto draw.
“What better way to celebrate then with a $100 million Powerball draw this week. We are looking to go back-to-back!
“We’ve had some bad storms here in December 2023 and a lot of people lost parts of their homes. We hope this win brings some joy to our community of Jimboomba.
“The last time we sold a division one winning entry was in 2009. We’ve patiently been waiting to sell another one and we’re so glad that the time has finally come.
“We hope this shows everyone that the division one prize can be won and to keep supporting your local small businesses so we can share these winning moments together!”
