A local man from Mount Warren Park has humorously confirmed a long-held Australian belief: winning a division one lottery prize is indeed 'better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick.'
The vibrant Queenslander was one of the lucky winners in the Monday & Wednesday Gold Lotto draw 4357, held on January 17, 2024, and he walked away with a cool $1 million.
The winner has shared how he discovered his win in the early hours of the morning after the draw.
“I woke up and it was maybe 3am and I thought I’d check my ticket. I just sat there looking at it. I couldn’t believe it! I didn’t get much sleep after that,” he said.
“It’s better than a poke in the eye with a blunt stick, that’s for sure!
“I’ve been playing forever and a day using these same numbers. I don’t know why I picked these numbers – I just picked them out of a hat.
“I came close to winning division one a few years ago but was one number short. At the time, I thought, ‘that’s the end of my chances of winning the lottery, but here we are!’.
“I still went to work today and will continue to work. I’m a bit young to retire just yet but I’ll be able to ease up a bit and enjoy life.”
The man’s winning marked System 7 entry was purchased at TSG Mount Warren News, Shop 4, 20-30 Mt Warren Boulevard, Mount Warren Park.
TSG Mount Warren News owner Anil Balia said he was thrilled to sell his first division one winning ticket.
“I’m overly excited as this is our first division one win. We’ve previously sold many division two winning tickets, so it’s great to finally get the big one,” he said.
“This is our first and I hope for many more to come.
“Congratulations to our winner. I hope this win will help you. Enjoy and spend well.
