IAG Graduate Program 2025: Launch Your Career with Purpose
IAG's 2025 Graduate Program is open and accepting applications from recent university graduates and students in their last year of studies.
The 18-month program, starting in February 2025, provides a platform to launch your career, with opportunities in eight exciting and diverse areas within IAG.
Eight Diverse Pathways
Not only is IAG Australia and New Zealand's largest general insurance company, we're also a leading research facility, a hub for climate and sustainability experts, and a centre for resilience design.
Whether your passion lies in actuarial work, finance, technology, risk management or shaping the customer experience, IAG has a pathway for you to help make the world a safer place.
Starting Your Journey
Mary Carrillo and Hnen Oska are both in their final rotation of their graduate program after joining in IAG's 2023 intake, but their journeys to IAG are distinctly different.
Hnen Oska is part of the Digital Finance Systems team and applied for the graduate program after completing two IAG internships through CareerSeekers - an organisation that supports humanitarian entrants in finding professional careers.
Originally from Damascus, Syria, Hnen started his Bachelor of Business studies in Damascus, before moving in 2017 and completing his studies in Melbourne.
"I was impressed that IAG offers opportunities to individuals coming from overseas. This inclusive approach made me respect the company even more and made me eager to further immerse myself into IAG's culture and contribute to its success," said Hnen.
Hnen added: "While I was a CareerSeekers intern I developed a comprehensive insight into the operations of the finance teams at IAG, which encouraged me to apply to the graduate program."
For Mary, it was IAG's purpose 'to make your world a safer place' and curiosity about how technology can support innovation and communities which inspired her to join IAG. Mary is a Technology and Operations Graduate in the Data Platforms team, with a double degree in Bachelor of Music and Science, majoring in Music Pedagogy, Neuroscience and Psychology.
"I've always been curious about how technology works, I found the IAG Tech & Ops grad program very enticing, and I wanted to work at a place where I can develop skills and gain knowledge on how technology operates," said Mary.
Before starting their jobs, all graduates receive a structured induction where they meet the rest of the graduate cohort and hear from senior leaders within the business.
Hnen praised the value of the induction as a good way to hit the ground running: "Graduate induction provided us with a comprehensive overview of the company's culture, values, and operations. We did a series of workshops, met with new colleagues, and formed important connections early on."
Developing Your Career
IAG supports graduates to take ownership of their careers and to maximise opportunities, while offering guidance, support and learning opportunities.
I'm gaining technical skills like learning Python, JavaScript, SQL, DBT, GitHub and, Google Cloud infrastructures. I'm also gaining non-technical skills like managing workflows and arranging meetings with stakeholders.Mary Carrillo

Hnen added that the experience in the finance division has allowed him to develop important stakeholder management and financial skills: "One of the main skills in finance is the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and present confidently in meetings, which I've significantly improved through my rotations."
All graduates are given professional development support and ongoing education through IAG's award-winning Learning Academy, Udemy, and free access to LinkedIn Learning, which is important in the transition to a full-time career. Graduates can also participate in a mentoring and buddy program to help them navigate their early careers in the insurance industry.
As their graduate rotations come to an end, both Mary and Hnen's interests and goals have become more focused, as they prepare for the next career stage.
Hnen added that while he was initially focused on accounting, he's discovered a stronger interest in becoming a finance business partner: "This shift has led me to explore the intersection between finance and technology, sparking a new passion for how these fields can complement each other."
Similarly, Mary said that while her career goal before IAG was broad, the experience has allowed her career goals to be more focused and with a pathway forward.
Navigating a New Industry
Although both graduates did not know much about the insurance industry before joining IAG, they approached their new opportunities with an open mindset, and have enjoyed the welcoming and flexible environment.
"Initially, I might have expected the finance area to have an old-school corporate vibe, but it wasn't like that at all. People are always open for a chat, happy to share advice and talk about their areas of expertise. Also, the blend of working from home and the office is great. IAG is quite flexible with this arrangement," said Hnen.
While Mary has been working in the Technology and Operations team, she's enjoyed the meaningful impact her work as a graduate can have within the business.
"I came in with an open mind and ready to learn everything about technology and operations at a corporate level, and I've gained skills, experience, and knowledge, which is so valuable," said Mary.
The IAG Way
When Hnen was asked why IAG is a great place for graduates, he said it's about the culture and environment which allows new starters to learn, support their teams and build connections.
Everyone at IAG is approachable and happy to engage in conversation, making graduates feel welcome and encouraging them to contribute more.Hnen Oska

Mary added that next year's graduate cohort should have a go and be curious.
"My advice to next year's graduates would be to not be afraid, to be curious and ask questions. The best way to learn is to be challenged and make mistakes which you can learn from."
