Iconic Alice Springs Masters Games Returns This Weekend

The Alice Springs Masters Games returns this weekend with 1150 entrants ready to show off their sporting prowess and have fun at the 18th edition of the Games.

The Games will take place from 12-19 October with competition being held across various sporting fields and centres in Alice Springs. The entrants make up more than 1250 sporting registrations across 23 sports including cycling, golf, archery, hockey, and tennis.

Eight days of competition kicks off on Saturday 12 October with a free Opening Ceremony and concert at TIO Traeger Park, that will be attended by Games Ambassador Nathan Buckley. The opening event in partnership with Alice Springs Town Council will include an athlete's march, Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony. The concert will see Australian rock band Taxiride featuring Jason Singh and country music artist and songwriter Brad Cox take to the stage.

The community is also encouraged to head to the sidelines to watch the sporting action with free entry to all events. Thursday night, 17 October, will see the town centre turn into a hub of activity as the Alice Springs Town Council Night Markets return. People in the town centre can watch the Masters Mile take off from Alice Springs Town Council Lawns at 6pm or watch the cycling and mountain bike racing up ANZAC Hill from 5pm.

The Closing Celebrations will invite everyone to revel in the achievements, camaraderie and fun that was the 2024 Alice Springs Masters Games. Pseudo Echo and DJ JLC will bring the entertainment at Lasseters Centre of Entertainment, with the free event to start at 6pm Saturday 19 October.

The ASMG began in 1986 and is the second oldest Masters Games in the world. The Games are an inclusive sporting competition as well as an opportunity for interstate competitors to explore the stunning Red Centre. Registrations for select sports remain open online and will close on Friday October 11.
