IGGS & IJGS Required to Show Leadership

Independent Education Union - Queensland and Northern Territory (IEU-QNT)

The Independent Education Union – Queensland and Northern Territory Branch (IEU-QNT) is calling on the Ipswich Girls Grammar School (IGGS) and Ipswich Junior Grammar School (IJGS) to demonstrate leadership as an employer and ensure quality working conditions for its teachers and school support staff. Ahead of further discussions over working conditions later this week, IEU-QNT organiser Andrew Elphinstone said the union called for leadership from the employer to address the key concerns employees have about their working conditions. "IGGS/IJGS teachers and school support staff are seeking action on a new automatic step for experienced teachers and flexible access to leave. "There are ways to resolve this matter but it requires leadership to do so. "Our union is ready to finalise the negotiations – we now need this employer to demonstrate the leadership necessary to do the same. "Without that leadership, what kind of message is the school sending to its current and future students," Mr Elphinstone said.
