Dubbo Regional Council (DRC) is excited to welcome the South Sydney Rabbitohs and Penrith Panthers to Apex Oval this weekend, along with the thousands of spectators and fans ready to watch the first NRL Premiership match at Apex. There is some key information the public needs to be aware of if they're attending the game, or if they are residents leaving nearby. The best place to get the most up-to-date information about road closures and parking is at dubbo.nsw.gov.au/nrl.
ROAD CLOSURES: DRC staff have been letter-dropping nearby residents, to notify them that there surrounding roads at Apex Oval will be closed, including Kokoda Place, Chelmsford Street and Cassia Street. Access will be granted to local traffic only, and residents may be asked to provide proof-of-residence when using these streets. The street closures are in place to ensure spectator and road-user safety, as these streets will be used by pedestrians to gain access to the grounds.
PARKING AND DROP OFF ZONES: There will be multiple drop off points around Apex Oval, including a drop off and pick up point at Hawthorn street, and a drop off and pick up zone on the corner of Wingewarra Street and Kokoda Place. Motorists are asked to avoid parking in commercial business carparks, as these are reserved for customers only. There is also disability access parking via Cassia Street, off Brigalow Avenue, and access will only be granted to people who have a disability permit displayed. Free parking is available for cars and buses at the Dubbo Showground, and is a short walking distance to Apex Oval. This route will be patrolled by traffic controllers, to ensure everyone's safety when walking to the venue.
"There are a number of conditions of entry that people must adhere to when they're visiting for the game too, and these were set out in the Terms and Conditions when people purchased their tickets. However, we know in the excitement of purchasing a ticket, sometimes these get overlooked. We've got a really simple list to help people understand what they can or cannot do or bring to the game on our website," said Manager Regional Events Kim Hague.
Some of the things that people must note, is that Eskies and Cooler bags are not permitted, everyone must use the Service NSW QR code to check in, and the green tick must be shown to staff to enable entry. Patrons must remain seated and in their designated zones. If you're in a zone that isn't the grandstand, you're welcome to bring your own chairs of picnic blankets.
"All bags will be checked as a condition of entry, as no alcohol, soft drinks, glass or cans are permitted in the grounds. And although we know you really want to share this fun occasion with your furry friend, no pets other than assistance animals who have undertaken a Public Access Test (PAT) are allowed into the venue," said Ms Hague.
There are full bar facilities and plenty of food options on-site, and while Eftpos is preferred to make Apex Oval a cashless venue, cash will still be accepted.
There is a comprehensive list of things people can or cannot do at Apex Oval throughout the duration of the game, and DRC thanks the community in their cooperation in ensuring this event runs smoothly. More information about conditions of entry, road closures, and parking can be found on DRC's website.
