An elected Coalition Government will invest $3 million to improve mobile coverage for residents, businesses and visitors in Avondale, Moore Park Beach, Yandaran and for commuters that utilise Rosedale Road.
Federal Member for Flynn, Colin Boyce said telecommunications have been at the forefront of his fight since his election as the Federal Member of Flynn in 2022.
"After writing several formal letters to the Communications Minister championing for more funding in our rural and regional areas for better connectivity and the disappointing responses I received, I opened a blackspot register on my website and encouraged residents of Flynn who were experiencing issues to place a submission.
"These submissions were then collated, with the information being passed to both local government offices and telecommunications companies such as Telstra and Optus to highlight the need for better connectivity in these areas.
"In the first few months of opening the blackspot register we identified some main areas of significant concern. The Avondale, Moore Park Beach, Yandaran and Rosedale Road area having the highest number of complaints.
"This funding commitment will be a critical step in addressing the lack of telecommunications for Avondale, Moore Park Beach, Yandaran and for the communities that regularly utilise Rosedale Road including commuters from Agnes Water, Miriam Vale, Baffle Creek and Lowmead that use the key route to travel to Bundaberg."
Shadow Minister for Communications, Melissa McIntosh MP said the announcement will address connectivity issues for the Avondale, Moore Park Beach, Yandaran and communities along Rosedale Road who have been calling for better mobile coverage.
"Digital connectivity is now an essential part of how we work, learn, stay safe and remain in contact with family and friends," said Mrs McIntosh.
"The Coalition will continue to invest in telecommunications infrastructure as part of our plan to strengthen local communities and to get Australia back on track.
"Unfortunately, the Albanese Government has no interest in improving telecommunications in regional, rural and remote Australia demonstrated by their sparse funding commitments and botched closure of the 3G network."
